Day 26 - Airlie Beach - by Danny

It’s been a monster few days at Great Keppel Island and I am writing this blog retrospectively. Lucky for me Tilly keeps her own journal of everyday.

I woke up slightly dusty from dinner with Luke and Chris and the 3rd State of Origin game we watched at our restaurant the ‘Coral Sea’.

Luke made coffee and we contemplated the day ahead while starring over his manicured yard and in-ground pool.

He then took us to see some sites of Airlie - perfect beaches; perfect water and sunbathers of various degrees of subjective perfection!

I was travelling in the front vehicle with Luke and while driving around Airlie I accidentally pressed against the handpiece of the uhf. Caroline and the kids got a lesson in swear words and of the pedigree of sunbathers we were passing as they could hear everything Luke and I were saying. Rooky error. Caroline rang me to explain the profanity was being heard by all the little ears. This had Luke and I too scarred to talk at all for 20 minutes. We drove and starred straight ahead like 2 naughty school kids.

We randomly stumbled upon Luke’s little sister Pam at the Marina who has been living on Hamilton island for 8 years but was in town to do some jobs.

Pam and then Christine joined us all for lunch at the yacht club.

From hear we visited another beachfront pub ‘Northeys’ on the other side of town.

The rest of the afternoon was shared between the lagoon in town; shopping down the Main Street;…..and Luke and I found a pub.

Later that night we had a bbq tea at Luke and Chris’s and we eventually ended up in the spa and then around a campfire for more drinks. A difficult morning of travel to great Keppel island was on the cards after we went to bed at about midnight.
